AS-IS, 2008

As-is merchandise invites shoppers to ‘take me as I am!’ with such a friendly, upfront, declarative style. I have long admired this thrift shop term and began to wonder if we earthlings might not benefit from trying it on for ourselves. I make tea, scones, and invite the public to bring an article of clothing on which they stitch their own AS-IS identification, chat and claim this apologetic term in an unapologetic communal rite of slowing down and bonding.
