U-turn on Black Street chronicles the evolution of a project in which boys under house arrest and neighborhood kids build sculptures for a garden from scrap materials at Construction Junction, a building materials recycling center in Pittsburgh. A collaboration with many local organizations turns a vacant lot in a blighted neighborhood into sculpture/vegetable garden and community gathering place despite the untimely death of one of the boys during the project.
